Born in Hong Kong, raised in Pakistan, and educated in the US, Asim spent three years at investment management firm BNY Mellon in New York City after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2010 with the intention of continuing his finance career, but quickly realized his true passion in the restaurant industry. He instead took on a year-long apprenticeship with a famous restaurant group. Throughout his apprenticeship Asim worked closely with the Director of Culinary Operations, Christopher Mark. The two forged a close friendship akin to brotherhood based on their shared dream of reinvigorating the city’s dining industry. At the end of 2011, the pair established Black Sheep Restaurants.
Black Sheep Restaurants currently owns and operates 7 restaurants including Boqueria, a Spanish concept in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong, Motorino, a neighborhood pizzeria with locations in Hong Kong’s Soho district and Wan Chai, Chôm Chôm, a popular Vietnamese concept, Ho Lee Fook, a funky Chinese kitchen in Central, Carbone, a New York-Italian fine dining establishment that pays tribute to mid-century New York, Burger Circus, an American style diner on Hollywood Road and Stazione Novella, an Italian bar inspired by the fiaschetterias of Florence.
Outside of his restaurants, Asim loves to travel and is passionate about all things Pakistan from poetry, politics to cricket.
