“Based on Alexander Pushkin’s eponymous verse novel, Eugene Onegin is regarded by many as Tchaikovsky’s greatest opera.” With its 2013 cast, the Met clearly found an ensemble that’s as capable of confirming this judgment as any.”
“This production, along with the crisp, clean, elegant lines of Chloe Obolensky’s period costuming, replicated the stiff, wintry, formal Russian society of the time that, like the English Victorians, was capable of concealing great passion beneath a politically correct exterior.”
– Terry Ponick, The Washington Times
“The performers created a tremendous amount of depth and nuance in an unforgettable night at the opera..the Met’s “Eugene Onegin” is a powerful experience that anyone can and should relish.”
– David Salazar, Latinos Post
Jointly organised with the Foundation for Arts and Music in Asia, a number of screenings will take place in our College Hall this year. The shows will be complimentary for HKU students, showcasing the world’s finest singers and most elaborate productions from The Metropolitan Opera of New York in what would be a unique artistic experience.
